69th Congregation of Procurators of the Society of Jesus
With the celebration of the Eucharist presided by the Superior General, Father Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, on the morning of September 18, the 69th Congregation of Procurators of the Society of Jesus will begin its deliberations. It is not the case of a General Congregation (the highest organ of the Society) but a meeting that the Superior General has to call every four years after the last General Congregation.
The Congregation is composed of 85 representatives (procurators) elected by each Province and 13 members of the central government of the Society in Rome for a total of 96 participants. The majority of the elected members are engaged in the field of education or in the formation of young Jesuits.
The main purpose of the Congregation is to decide whether a General Congregation should be called. Another important task of the procurators is to examine and discuss the situation of the Society in the world. The Congregation of Procurators has no legislative powers, but it can temporarily suspend decrees issued previously, until the convocation of a General Congregation.
With the exception of two Congregations of Procurators held in Fiesole, Italy (1886 and 1889), all the others have taken place in Rome.
The 69th Congregation will be presided by Father Kolvenbach, who will give the inaugural and concluding homilies, and will open the sessions of the Congregation with a report on the present situation of the Society in the world.
In 2003 the Jesuits number 20,400, work in 112 countries and belong to 10 Assistancies and 85 Provinces. At the beginning of the year there were 929 novices.

69a Congregación de Procuradores de la Compañía de Jesús
Con la celebración de la Eucaristía presidida por el Superior General, Padre Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, dará comienzos el 18 de setiembre en Loyola la 69 Congregación de Procuradores. No se trata de una Congregación General (órgano supremo de la Compañía) sino de una reunión que el Superior General debe convocar a los cuatro años de la última Congregación General.
La Congregación está compuesta por 85 representantes (procuradores) elegidos por las Provincias (uno de cada provincia) y 13 miembros del gobierno central de la Compañía con un total de 96 participantes. La mayoría de los procuradores ocupan cargos en el campo de la educación o en la formación de los jóvenes jesuitas.
El objetivo principal de la Congregación de Procuradores es decidir si consideran necesaria la convocación de una Congregación General. Un segundo objetivo es examinar la situación de la Compañía de Jesús en el mundo. La Congregación no tiene poder legislativo pero puede suspender temporalmente, hasta la convocación de una Congregación General, decretos promulgados anteriormente.
Con la excepción de dos Congregaciones de Procuradores que se reunieron en Fiesole, Italia, (en 1886 y 1889), todas las demás se han tenido en Roma.
La 69 Congregación estará presidida por el P. Kolvenbach que pronunciará las homilías de inauguración y clausura, y abrirá los trabajos con un examen de la situación actual de la Compañía de Jesús.
En 2003 los jesuitas son 20.400, trabajan en 112 países y están agrupados en 10 Asistencias y 85 Provincias. En enero 2003 el número de novicios era 929.

A Loyola la 69ma Congregazione dei Procuratori dei Gesuiti
Prenderà il via con una concelebrazione la mattina del 18 settembre 2003, a Loyola, in Spagna, la 69ma Congregazione dei Procuratori della Compagnia di Gesù.
Essa viene convocata dal Padre Generale ogni quattro anni a partire dall’ultima Congregazione Generale e vi partecipa un rappresentante (chiamato Procuratore) per ogni Provincia della Compagnia, eletto durante le Congregazioni Provinciali che, secondo quanto stabilito dalla formula che attualmente regola lo svolgimento della Congregazione, devono essere convocate alcuni mesi prima del suo inizio.
Il numero totale dei membri della prossima Congregazione dei Procuratori è 98, così suddivisi: 85 rappresentanti delle province (1 per ciascuna) e 13 partecipanti di diritto provenienti dal governo centrale di Roma. La maggioranza degli eletti occupa attualmente un incarico di governo in istituzioni della Compagnia, nel campo dell’educazione e nel campo della formazione dei giovani gesuiti.
Scopo principale della Congregazione dei Procuratori è decidere se è necessario convocare o meno una Congregazione Generale. Altro obiettivo importante della Congregazione è discutere lo stato attuale della Compagnia.
Ad eccezione di due Congregazioni dei Procuratori tenutesi a Fiesole nel 1886 e 1889, tutte le altre si sono tenute a Roma.
Presiederà la Congregazione dei Procuratori il Preposito Generale della Compagnia, Padre Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, che pronuncerà l’omelia durante la messa di inizio della Congregazione e presenterà poi la prima relazione sullo stato della Compagnia, con la quale si daranno l’avvio ai lavori, che si prevede dureranno circa cinque giorni.
La Compagnia di Gesù è presente attualmente in 112 paesi del mondo con circa 20.400 membri suddivisi in 10 Assistenze e 85 province. Al 1 gennaio 2003 si contavano 929 novizi.
